Project Optimism: Ben Affleck Speaks to Me

Sunday, 7:30 PM
Me: I’m getting tired of Project Optimism. I have nothing. I’m not an optimist.
Tom: Maybe something tonight will inspire you.
Me: Doubt it.

Enter: Ben Affleck.

And to think I tried to convince Tom to leave early so I could go to sleep. Granted, sleep sounds pretty good right now, but no. This was worth it.

In light of my recent career/identity crisis, I just needed to hear these words.

“You have to work harder than you think you possibly can.
You can’t hold grudges. It’s hard, but you can’t hold grudges.
And it doesn’t matter how you get knocked down in life,
Because that’s gonna happen. All that matters is that you gotta get up.”
-Ben Affleck

Then he gets choked up as he mentions his kids and I start to cry a little.

If you missed it, here’s the video.

Over the next couple months, I’m going to be working harder than I think I possibly can.

  1. Not gonna lie, I got a little choked up too. It was nice to hear words that resonate so loudly with a lot of people from someone who’s fall and return has been so public. It really gives them credence.

  2. It was a sweet victory for him for sure. Great moment. :)

  3. I love oscar acceptance speeches- they always make me cry. And they’re full of optimism too :-)

  4. Work, girl, work! Ben was a nobody and BAM! Now he’s crying at the Oscars. And I’m loving him just a little more than I did before he cried at the Oscars. :)

  5. As someone who has fallen so many times, I do have to say everytime I’ve gotten up I’ve becomie a wittier, funnier, and more lovable person! So you just go ahead and fall and know that you have Saint Tom, Mommy, Daddy, Amy-loo, and the rest of us to pick you back up!
