Project Optimism: Super Best Friends Productions

I mentioned last week that my friend Amanda and I are working on a super secret project.

Since then, we’ve had two meetings of our new company:

super best friends productions

In advance of our first meeting, overwhelmed by how much we had to discuss, I decided to throw together an agenda real quick. I picked the name “Super Best Friends Productions” just for fun, because we’re always joking about our whirlwind friendship (we met about two months ago).

Despite its silliness, the name seems to be sticking, for now. Look for our production card, coming eventually to a TV near you.

After two meetings, I feel confident enough to reveal that Amanda and I are writing and producing an independent comedy pilot.

we're each 1/2 of Liz Lemon

we’re each about 1/2 of a Liz Lemon

Have we ever produced anything before? No. Is that in any way squelching our optimism? Also no.

I’m reading up on the topic and Amanda is talking to her contacts. Every independent producer has a first project, and this is ours.

I’m not ready to reveal the premise yet, as it may evolve as we write, but stay tuned.

To this project, I attribute the fact the fact that I caught myself smiling while waiting for the subway this morning, for the first time probably ever. Well, to that and the fact that I remembered to have caffeine this morning. But still.

And, for some reason, I feel compelled to leave you with this quote from Pretty Woman:

Welcome to Hollywood! What’s your dream? Everybody comes here; this is Hollywood, land of dreams. Some dreams come true, some don’t; but keep on dreamin’ – this is Hollywood. Always time to dream, so keep on dreamin’.

What’s your dream?

And no, that doesn’t mean I’m moving to Hollywood… yet.
