It’s not just the name of a Matchbox 20 song, the video for which was on constantly during the brief period in my life that I watched MTV religiously.
It’s not just the name of that show, also on MTV, in which absolutely nothing is like the real world.
It’s also, you know, like, life. For most of us. It’s the concept that life sometimes feels like a slow, sad march toward the grave, and we accept this, because this is the real world.
Ok, that just got really dark.
Anyway, I spent the last six days in TV production fantasy camp. And, you know, taking care of my various ailing family members.
But today, it’s back to work. Back to the real world.
My husband just texted that he has a fever and all I want to do is be home with him. But the reason I go to work is for him too. This is the real world.
Ok, so some good things about going back to work…
- I got to use the car today so that was exciting.
- Getting up early makes me feel productive.
- The LIRR is a relatively efficient mode of commuting.
- Any moment, my bagel will be delivered?
I’m really reaching. But that’s life.
Now, let me find that video, which I believe includes a camel in a bowling alley for some reason…
Upon further review, it’s almost entirely a camel in a bowling alley.
Update: My bagel just got delivered and it’s one of those fake bagels that is really just a roll with a hole in the middle. New York is officially over.
