I was walking from Triple Crown, one of several bars around the Chelsea/Penn Station junction where the improv kids hang out. I was smiling, reflecting on the fun night I’d had at improv class, followed by the unique feeling of bonding over drinks with new friends.
And I got the feeling: someday I will miss this.
I’ve spent most of my adult life wishing I was still in college. But now that I live at home, I’ve added to that list, wishing I was still in Brooklyn.
And, someday, I will remember fondly that year I spent taking improv classes, making new friends, and taking drunk train rides home to my favorite husband. And wish I could go back.
I only just got around to watching the finale of The Office, and Andy sums up life in a way that I think almost everybody can relate to:

“I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.”
So, maybe take a second today and appreciate the life you’re living right now. Or not, whatever, I’m not your life coach.
